Mentorship Program 11/29/18

by Meghan Miller

On November 29, 2018 Women in Business held its fall semester Mentorship Program in Wyatt Rotunda on Vanderbilt’s Peabody Campus.  As the organization’s trademark event, the Mentorship Program has always driven high anticipation and high turnout year after year.  This semester in particular, the event boasted over 30 local mentors and 55 participating student mentees.  The program is designed to facilitate conversation between local Nashville business women and female Vanderbilt students in an effort to create meaningful connections that serve as a basis for potential mentor-mentee relationships extending beyond the event itself.

Upon entering the beautifully decorated venue, it was immediately evident that the room was buzzing with excitement, captivating conversations, and laughter.  The pool of mentors included women in consulting, banking, marketing, HR, management, entrepreneurship, and talent recruitment among other career specialties.  It was clear that the carefully selected mentors were women with genuine passions to give back to their community by offering their wisdom and advice to lift up the future female business leaders of tomorrow.  Both mentors and mentees exuded excitement and enthusiasm as they engaged in stimulating conversations surrounding topics of business, career planning, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

As the event came to a close, both mentors and mentees continued to rave about the profound conversations and authentic connections they had experienced that night.  On behalf of WIB, we hope that the majority of these wonderful conversations and connections extend beyond this event and organically grow into long-lasting mentor-mentee relationships.  As women in the male-dominant world of business, it is crucial that we continue to lift each other up, share and learn from our failures, celebrate our victories and show compassion and support for one another, always. To everyone that participated — thank you.
