Consulting Workshop with WiB Cofounders

by Emma Lucchino

Vanderbilt Women in Business started off the Spring 2021 semester with a consulting workshop led by our cofounders: Sasha Pines and Jo Cheng. Through this exciting virtual event, Sasha and Jo covered everything from how Vanderbilt WiB was started to the basics of consulting and even the consulting recruitment process. It was so inspiring to hear from the women who created this organization and learn a little bit more about how they got into the consulting roles they are currently in.

We kicked off this program with the story behind Vanderbilt WiB. Sasha and Jo highlighted the need for an organization on Vanderbilt’s campus solely dedicated to supporting and encouraging women interested in business. WiB was able to serve as that organization and also grow to become a true community of like-minded and determined women.

The event continued with information on what consultants do and how Sasha and Jo decided to pursue consulting. Both women agreed that consulting was a perfect option for them after graduating from Vanderbilt because they were not exactly sure what industries were most interesting to them. Consulting allowed them to explore different industries and narrow their focus for what they will pursue next. They further discussed that consulting is based on problem-solving, which meant no two days looked the same!

The program concluded with q & a, which went into more detail on specific projects Sasha and Jo have worked on as well as basics on the consulting recruitment process. We are so grateful that we were able to have this event and hear from both of these amazing and accomplished women!
